4 Opportunities Each Year to Have Temporary Membership Fees Waived For Your Guests

On Saturday, April 4th owners met together at the Lake Club for the second time this year in an open forum. Temporary Membership fees were discussed and the policy was tweaked a bit to implement ideas presented.

It was decided that each year an owner will have 4 opportunities to have the $13 per day Temporary Membership fee waived for their extended family members or guests that have been invited to stay in their Bear Lake home. This does not apply to persons that are RENTING your home. The Temporary Membership Agreement will still need to be signed and processed 72 hours before arrival to satisfy the NC Alcohol and Beverage Control Commission. Your guests can pick up their Temporary Membership cards at the Lake Club.

Be sure to notify Membership Services Director Kathy Sluder at (828) 293-3864 that you would like to take advantage of this opportunity to avoid confusion concerning paying the fee when your guests arrive. Pontoon Boats Available for Rent

Rental of our new Pontoon boats will begin Friday, April 10th. They will be available for half-day rentals only thru Monday, April 13th.

Beginning Tuesday, April 14th, the boats will be available for either half-day or full-day rentals.


Rental rates:
Owner:
Full-day: $130
Half-day: $80

Non-owner:
Full-day: $185
Half-day: $110

Payment for the rental must be made by credit card when the boat is reserved.

Cancellation Policy:
Payment for boat rental is made in full at the time of reservation.
If reservation is canceled more than 30 days in advance, full payment will be returned.
If reservation is canceled between 30 days and 7 days in advance, 50% of the rental payment will be retained.
If reservation is canceled less than 7 days in advance, full rental payment will be retained.

Maximum passengers per boat is 10. No pets allowed.

Fishing Season Opens in Jackson County Saturday, April 4th

If you want to try fly fishing in some of the beautiful mountain streams around Bear Lake Reserve you will want to meet Alex Bell. To arrange a fly fishing excursion along the Tuckasegee River with Alex call the Activities Department (828) 293-7414. Alex says beginners are welcome.

If you chose to venture out on your own you might want to check out the Western North Carolina Fly Fishing Trail. Its 15 stops provide a variety of options for catching brook, brown and rainbow trout.

A fishing license is required for fishing in these mountain streams. A license can be purchased online at the website for the NC Wildlife Resources Commission.

Whether you go alone or with a guide please remember the credo of the true fly fisherman: Treat the land with respect and leave all streams in better condition than you found them.

Construction Update 3/28/09

Installation of power and conduit for phone and cable TV continues on Lake Forest Drive between the intersections of Saddlenotch Lane and Grandview Drive. Roadway grading operations are being performed in locations where the installation has taken place. This work is in preparation for the initial course of paving. This will create a paved loop from the Golf Pro Shop to Saddlenotch Lane.

Grading operations for the Parkside Pavilion project are progressing on schedule. This pavilion is at the end of Parkside Drive near the Golf Pro Shop. Paving operations for Parkside Drive have been rescheduled for next month to complete additional grading and utility installations. Rock work continues on the fireplace and should be finished soon. Tennessee flagstone will then be put down on the floors to complete the pavilion.

At the Greeter’s Cottage work is progressing well. HVAC is in the final stages and drywall will begin going up shortly. Selections are being made for colors inside.

Additional conduit for future infrastructure improvements including “fiber to house” for enhanced telecommunications is being installed along Southshore and Parkside Drives and Pepperbush Lane.

March Madness Owners' Event

Our Owners’ Event for March was fun for all. The lounge was decorated with college pennants and the tables were topped with college-logo table cloths. For some the highlight of the day was the ballgames but for others the highlight was the snack trays the chefs kept bringing out to the tables. Suzanne McAliley won the prize for the best use of team colors in her “fan” attire. Megan at the front desk had the cutest hat with her little girl-y bow in the back.





























Next month’s Owners’ Event will be April 11th when we unveil the new Parkside Pavilion. That will be Easter weekend so we will have an Easter bonnet contest. One of the prizes will be for the “most original” Easter bonnet so ladies put on your “thinking caps” and get creative.
